Based in Washington, DC, Dr. John Vinson has built a reputation for his ability to build formidable security networks and programs. Dr. Vinson’s passion stems from his desire to protect the people around him, and his work in Law Enforcement & Campus Security, as well as his work in Higher Education have all been centered around the statement “people deserve to be safe and feel safe. Dr. John Vinson is a former Chief of Police, something that is very similar to leading a global security operation.

The crux of both roles is the ability to protect the people around you and keep a constant grasp on emerging as well as real safety risks. Dr. Vinson brings over two decades of experience in building sound security infrastructure, understanding that standing alone and standing your ground in the storm of criticism are absolutely necessary from time to time. Excellence can often ruffle feathers, but Dr. John Vinson’s ability to lead well is wrapped up in his ability to care for the people around him and inquire counsel from the greats that have come before.

Dr. John Vinson’s entrance into higher education began at Central Michigan University where he received his B.S.B.A in Management, later going on to receive his Master’s in Public Education from there, as well. After that, Dr. John Vinson went on to further his work in academia by obtaining his Ph.D. in Public Administration at Western Michigan University.

Dr. Vinson’s professional affiliations include active membership in the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), and the Western Society of Criminology. He recently completed his three-year term as the General Chair of the IACP University and College Police Section, a position serving on the board of directors for the IACP. Dr. John Vinson is the President of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), which serves as the leading authority for campus public safety representing over 4,200 members.

Throughout his career, Dr. John Vinson has also made a name for himself for his work in Higher Education Leadership, having taught at post-secondary institutions for over 14 years.

In addition to his work in & Law Enforcement and Public Safety, John is an avid runner, having completed over 100 marathons on six continents. John is passionate about the importance of personal health and wellness, especially as it relates to people’s careers in Law Enforcement.
