There are already health-related devices out there, such as fitness trackers, blood pressure watches, EEG headbands, and more. Some are used in medical settings, while others are used at home. These connected IoT devices could be used to monitor health and use live data to diagnose and treat more accurately.

Doctors would be able to access data about their patients remotely and see symptoms as soon as they occur. The patient would no longer have to determine that they have symptoms and set an appointment, which could be weeks or even months out.

The delay in IoT applications is that there are integration issues that still require manual data sharing. This is true with external systems, and it is related to data privacy and security. However, technology exists to make it happen.

Benefits of IoT in Healthcare

If IoT devices were connected to a data center, they could automatically exchange information that allows precision medicine. Doctors would be able to make more informed diagnoses based on real data. IoT devices could support healthcare processes; for example, they could monitor several different indicators, including heart rate, blood pressure, insulin levels, and body temperature. Having this information over time gives a doctor a very accurate picture.

In addition, treatments could be tailored to the patient’s specific symptoms and signs. IoT devices could also be programmed to notify medical professionals when a patient needs immediate care. They could also allow remote monitoring of non-critical patients so that they could stay home.
